What are the rules regarding BAH and a proxy marriage in advance of a deployment?

Im currently on rotation and was planning on getting married after I got back. My gf lost her job and is struggling to stay a float. So, we pushed the marriage forward and did a proxy marriage so that I could adequately assist her while I'm away. I was told by an S1 personnel that I wouldn't receive BAH because I'm not able to clear the barracks. Is this true? Before leaving in roation, we cleared the barracks so is that not enough?

Ask that S-1 personnel to show you the regulation that states you would not receive BAH because you didn't clear barracks....... Whether the barracks is cleared or not, you are entitled to BAH now since you got married.......

That's going to be tough. And depending on your S1 they may not know how to do the DA5960 during deployment. They need a copy of the marriage cert., her SSN, and barracks clearing paperwork. I would, if you can talk to your Training Room NCOIC. They're your in-between to S1. The S-shops are Battalion assets. And don't respond well to individual soldiers.

I worked in the training room for 11 months so I have a pretty decent relationship with the S1 shop. I know I'd recieve back pay, but was wondering was there anyway around that, because technically you clear the barracks when you go on rotation. No?

You know because it kinda defeats the purpose of getting married now verse waiting until I get back...

SPC (Join to see) I don't know how much free time you have over there. What I would do is, do had much of the paperwork for them. And then bring the reg. with you to support your claim. You could also seek advice from Brigade legal. I know this is while your deployed, so everything is extra hard.

So is there away to search for previously posted questions. I can assure you I wasn't the one who posted before. Do you have an answer, SFC?

SPC (Join to see) - Try the search bar up top but I mentioned it because of the same-like subject - I do think it was someone in Korea already and he was asking for similiar circunstances. He was actually going home from Korea and his wife and he had been married by proxy while he was overseas.
Sorry it took me a while to get back to you and remember the post's wording.
