I am quickly approaching my DEROS, and if I do not get picked up for warrant officer in March, I need a plan for furthering my career.

What are the pre-requisites to being assigned at the school house? Are there courses I need to complete prior to requesting a position? Do I need to cordinate with the school house to obtain an instructor position?

You just call your branch. Even if you are planning on getting picked up for warrant you need to start the process of your enlisted move. Once you're 6 months from DEROS you'll be placed on assignment and it will be too late to change that. Conversely, if you have orders to be an instructor and you get picked up for warrant, that will trump anything else.

I’ve tried talking to branch. My CMF manager said I’m “too far out from my DEROS, which is in 9 months to be placed on assignment”

SSG (Join to see) The assignment managers will tell you that because they don't need to worry about you until you're 9 months out. Try talking to the professional development NCO and they may be able to earmark one of those positions for you.
However, you should be aware that as an E-5 you are on the lowest priority to fill a broadening assignment.

SSG (Join to see) The assignment manager is following manning guidelines that require they place you on assignment NET 9 and NLT 6 months from DEROS. That doesn't mean you can't be placed on assignment prior to then, only when they are scheduled to get to you. Every branch has a PDNCO who also works in the branch at HRC. They are always an NCO and not a civilian. They are usually in charge of nominative assignments, or special assignments, but it varies from one branch to another. That's the person who has the power to give you the instructor slot. He may give it to you and tell you that he's not going to place you on it until you are 9 months out.
As for going to the board and the waiver, if you are not a KD complete SSG you'll need that waiver no matter what. Whether or not you need one is less relevant than whether or not they need you or have a position for you at your DEROS. The Army has fairly strict guidelines on reassignment from OCONUS. You will need to be placed on an assignment with a report date of the following month after your DEROS up to 60 days past your DEROS. If they can't match that assignment up, you may have to FSTE to match the requisition report date

Things that will help you out is going to the two week course if you are close to a facility that teaches it. It used to be called army basic instructor course don’t remember the name now. Next follow what SFC Boyd said and contact branch, another option I’ve seen work is contacting the schools unit but you may be a little light on rank to pull that one.

Staff and Faculty went away a while back. ABIC is correct. As for the assignment...when I was a Branch Manager I couldn't just pick someone for the position...while is not a nominative position...most branches treat it as such
