May is a month which is chock full of reminders about military service for those serving, those supporting the people who are serving and those who died while in the service of this nation.
We are living in turbulent times yet I believe we have much to be thankful for. I am thankful:
1. that our armed forces are still attracting highly qualified, conscientious, and motivated soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines.
2. that this nation is still generally the land of the free and more certainly the home of the brave.
3. for the privilege of serving this nation for so many years and getting to work with and know so many of those who served with me.
4. for the love of my wife and sons.
5. for my daily and eternal salvation through my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

I am proud to have served in the greatest Army on the face of the earth and that I was allowed the honor of serving on jump status. I am thankful that through all the deployments I had that my wife of almost 30 years is still by my side. I am thankful for my children of whom 2 have either served our country or are still serving. I am grateful to my Savior for giving assurance of my salvation that I was able to tread where others have before and not feared death. I am thankful for all of you here that offer kind words or prayers for each other. We have all come from different backgrounds and made a team to fight evil in this world and we are still a team. Thank you everyone.

Many things to be thankful for being in the military, in no particular order:

1. Traveled around the world, met a lot of wonderful people
2. Experience
3. Income, a living
4. Education
5. Meeting my wife from a foreign country
6. Strengthening LDRSHIP (Army thing :-) )
7. A purpose
8. Serving a wonderful country, you would realize it visiting some of the places I have been
9. To serve with fellow military members
10. Teamwork

NMAM - Great post!

Here are a couple off the top:

Wife and daughter - while my wife thinks all us military folks are nuts she still accepts that part of me and my family. Daughter loves to hear of my slightly embellished military antics

Father and mother - Father a career officer of over 20 years of service and mother a military brat who saw the world and then signed up for more when she married my father.

Sister - acted like a big brother and is still always up for getting into a little trouble - however disappointed that she wouldn't go skydiving with me - still working on that one.

Friends - many of my friends served - all my most trusted and closest have - my good friend Chris for his service and his ultimate sacrifice for our country, love you bro.

CAV - Some of the craziest son's of bitches I know - going into a hot range to retrieve a chute from a 155mm illumination round.

Extended military family - My father started out Navy then went Air Force, Grandfathers - one Air Force the other Army, my wife's father Army, my uncle Army and then there is me. I feel really lucky to have had the experience of serving.

To all those deployed - even with all the issues going on I wish I was a younger man covering your 6. Thank you for your service and your sacrifice you are the true 1%.

To the military wounded and their families - praying that you find a positive way to move forward in your recovery. I'm with you, supporting you through groups like DAV. Don't stop fighting for what's due for your sacrifice.

To all the Blue Star families - I don't think words nor tears could ever come close to express enough gratitude in equal measure to your pain and loss.

I am thankful for those who served before, with, and after me, as well as those who are now serving. It reminds me of why I served: the selfless act of serving for our country and knowing the cost to protect our freedom.

I am thankful for being able to have served in the military. I have had brothers killed in war time and in garrison. I served with soldiers, NCO's and officers that I would serve with again in a heartbeat if I could.

That my names was not left off your list? Also, that my name came before the MG?

What am I thankful for?

A loving God who blesses me regardless of what I deserve.

A daughter who gives the best hugs and is still excited to see her Daddy...even if she knows he is going to be there? See above.

To have won the life lottery and been born in the United States of America. See a loving God above.

The Constitution of the United States of America or maybe the one above would not have been all that big of deal?

And, all the men and women here on RP...even the 23 you did not list :) and those who answered our Nation's call not on RP, but who's sacrifice is still appreciated. God Bless you one and all.

Oh yeah, and a cold Guinness in a pint glass...or a drinking horn...not as big as those listed above but I am always thankful when I have one too.

I am thankful that there are still Men and Women with the sense of Duty protecting the country I love, that we are still free to debate the issues of our nation, and I am able to pass those freedoms to my children.
