I agree with the commenbt the worst duty is the last one and th ebest is the next one. I was stations at Ft. Clayton in he 70's and remember th esnakes and the holler monkeys throwing their own crap at us - it was discussing. Now they are funny stories that I tell to yourn soldiers and airmen.

Worst?...Honestly, Hawaii. And yes, I do get out but there is only so much to do and after a bit, every day seems like Groundhog Day. Chance I’ll be stationed another three years here and my mental health is tettering.
Best? Vicenza, Italy but Europe overall is winner for me. Great sense of community both at work and play. Beautiful place to live and eat with seemingly a million more options just a bike, car, train or plane away. Hoping orders will drop any day now to go back.

Maybe not for the soldier but Hawaii can sure be a coin flip for their families. Bad schools, high cost of living, traffic, Island fever, high population density, etc can be major stressors. If I had the knowledge I do now, I would have never brought my family here. My families mental health and savings have both gone downhill since the day we arrived 3+ years ago. Do the research and pro/con list before taking the leap.

I spent 10 1/2 years in the Army and cannot say I was ever at a bad duty station. They are what you make of them. A lot of people hated Ft Hood and I could not see why. That post had everything a person could want. golf courses, bowling alleys, movie theaters, race/ drag strips, hunting, fishing and more. I served at Ft Hood, Ft Meade, Ft. Riley, Ft Devens, Germany (Herzo Base, Ansbach, Nurnburg and Augsburg). 2 Tours in Vietnam. I think the question would be not where you were stationed, but what unit you were assigned to. I was lucky to have spent my entire time with the Army Security Agency and enjoyed all my duty stations.

This one is not for me because I was a Marine, but my father disliked Ft. Hood so much, after only a few days being stationed there he went to his CO to ask how he could get out. This was during the Korean War. They told him he could request a transfer and there was a 50% chance he would go to Korea and 50% chance for Germany. He wanted to get out so much, he took the chance and ended up in Germany. Well, that's where he met my mother and thus the reason I'm here.
