You know.... I thought Sill was bad. But after 2 days in Drum I'll go ahead and say I'll never be back up here if I'm not required by orders. I'm not comfortable being in a place where central A/C is considered a luxury because "well it's usually cold so it's not a priority". That's like going to Lawton and them saying "well we don't have heat because it's usually hot". I haven't been on post yet but I fear the surrounding towns may be setting the tone. Compared to Lawton and inner city ran down Baltimore.... this place is glorified trailer park. It's unnecessarily expensive for the lack of quality - especially in 2019. I never wanted so bad for a place to be gentrified in my life smh.

FT.POLK . If the bug's do not kill you the snakes just might.
Lucky for me I have been there just for training. Then there is FT.Stewart Same with the bugs snakes and the Condemned buildings that were used for the barracks.

This is just my opinion, It is not the place that you are stationed at it is mostly the Leadership.
And the people that you are stationed with. Then it is what there is to do on your off time.
I wish I had learned that a long time ago.
When I was in 4/7 cav. In Korea I hated it. I liked most of the people. Had a great LT L. Smith and squad leader SSG S.Marino. I would have gave up some rank to work for either one of them again. Our Squadron Commander on the other hand would make sure the PX was loaded up with boze then lock us down over long weekends then go to Soul to be with his family. Then gave every one shit for all the drunks and fights.
I do not know were he learned his leadership style. LTC William .V Hill our CSM Bell a great guy most of us had great respect for him.

There was not much to do on our camp, But drinking and going to the outside Bars like the (Blue Angel) If you have been to camp Garry Owen the you have probably been there.

Then I should have looked harder for better things to do.
Most of the Koreans that I dealt with where very nice. Some of our people could have learned from them. Just because you do not speak the same language does not make them stupid.

I don't have five. Only time I truly disliked someplace was when I was part of the IRR recall in 2004 and went back to Fort Lewis. Ended up in the World War Two Era barracks on North Fort that I could of swore had been condenmend when I was first there in 1997-2000.

Oh and then fire ants and flying cockroaches only added to the charm of Fort Jackson.

Fort Ord, CA had a much better climate than Fort Leonard Wood. Worst place was in Vietnam out in the bush-rain forest during the monsoon season, leeches biting you and than you get jungle rot. Even the Forward Support Base was a muddy mess.

A neighborhood friend of mine joined the Navy, Key West, Fl. for most of his tour.

In the 20 yrs in the army, I never really had a bad duty station. Even the 27 month tour in Veit Nam as a crew chief and door gunner on a huey was not all that bad, although, it got a little hairy some times.

I have to say that everywhere I was stationed was great. Every can talk crap about where they were, but they have to get out and do stuff, not just sit in barracks and drink. So I was always out doing things. Whenever I left a place I was happy to go, but sometimes when I got to the new place I was sad to be there and missed the old place and the cycle repeated itself at the end of that tour. So no one bad duty assignment.

There is no other place as bad as where you just arrived, no other place as good as the one you just left
