Ft Dix was my least favorite but that was where I went to basic training. The reason I found it not very favorable is because there was not to much to do on a week end pass but go to this shithole town named Wrightsville a town to take advantage of young soldiers, the folds in charged warned everyone not to go there, where do think a young and dumb guy who has been cooped up for over a month would go?.....

Dugway proving ground... unless you like having nothing on post and 45 miles and an hour drive from the nearest town.

Ft Carson back in the 70's. We had a PLT meeting and the 2LT wanted all the soldiers to bond so he told us that we did not have to use rank to address another soldier. I was an SSG at the time. One loudmouthed PVT thought he would use that to verbally abuse NCO's. At the end of the session I invited the trooper between two deuce-half. He thought he was still in the classroom and started his mouth on me. I corrected him. I was read the riot act and the 2LT was reamed by the CO. The Army seemed to be touchy-feely back in those days. The other four were not bad.

I had the same problem at Coleman Bks in 1976. DA must have been training butter bars to conduct these sessions. Surprisingly I did informal counseling behind the motorpool with a private whose father was a. Sergeant Major. The SGM paid me a visit after an ART15 was done by the CO on my recommendation. He took his son and discipline him harder than I. The PV1 was chaptered out months later. My worst soldiers were Army brats who thought they knew UCMJ better than the COC.

I was there was there at that time frame it seemed to me that after Vietnam the army lost their discipline. Soldier walked around with long hair did not salute officers it was messed up i am guessing they were blaming it all on Vietnam. But a ton of race relation classes. i was a new soldier right out of AIT. It was just a confusing time.
