Social security is already a national I'd card. It's protected by law from being used public ally except for hackers. National card would help I'd the enemies of the Republic

I think we (SM's) already have one Sir. I don't know if I'd make it mandatory though, allow the Citizens to decide if they want to get it. It could be helpful for people who are constantly traveling though.

I am thinking more along the lines of a national ID card for everyone.

As a collection of supposedly "Free and Independent States," no. There are a number of reasons, but the biggest one is there is no power granted under the Constitution of the United States to the federal government to produce/manage a national ID.

Great point, maybe an amendment is needed.

LTC (Join to see) - Not a reason, IMNSHO, to amend the Constitution. One of the reasons our system works, is the states can act free and independent of each other. Which is also the reason for Article IV Section 1. This allows the several States to set the standard for an ID and the other States are supposed to recognize it. Which is why you only need to have a driver's license from your home state and not one from every state you travel through.

It would also require repeal of the 10 Amendment as this power is not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states they retain the power to produce, issue, and manage identification for their citizens.

Hopefully with the last breached, the government will employ some technology to protect the data.

LTC (Join to see) - I agree. This reminds me that my Government protection for the breach of information has now expired and I better be looking for a replacement. Lifelock?

I'm against it, we already have ID's. We have to provide them for just about everything. Where e need it most is when we go to vote. There are too many people voting that aren't either citizens of this country, or they are voting more than once which is illegal also.

A national ID card would be great for individuals without any other form of ID. An illegal alien national ID card is a thought. Would't have to wonder.
