What are your thoughts on members who are just down right smart alec and rude when they comment?

Recently I've noticed in several posts by various members that there seems to be a handful of folks who tend to be snide, rude, dis respectful, mean and callous and some are actually down right disgusting (sexist) in their responses.
I have noticed that a few members tend to do this quite a bit.
What would you do when you see a post like this? If it were a post you posted....Do you respond? Do you leave it alone? What if you didn't post it, but you read it on someone else's post?
Should these members be allowed to continue to be members?

I can think of one in particular who is frequently just a jack ass to others plain and simple. Funny thing is the member is also a huge hypocrite in the sense that they complain about others being intolerant, rude and disrespectful when they don't agree with said members views. I'm honestly surprised that said member has been allowed to stay but it isn't my decision to make. I just try and ignore people that act that way. They get their jollies from being pretentious a**hats and unfortunately unless staff members see it there isn't much one can do.

I don't doubt it but for the sake of preventing further conflict, even though I have never been into it with the individual myself, I am just going to leave them nameless here. I just feel as though they walk a very fine line with many of their posts.

Hard one to answer, I know once in a while I give snide remark, but not continually.

I am very competitive, and don't back down very often, Sgt Kelli Mays, unless of course someone can show me that their point has merit. Attacking me personally just has the effect of making me dig my heels in deeper. That said, I do try to avoid snide, rude, etc. remarks, and I outright refuse to say anything remotely sexist.
I recently had to take the action of blocking a user, for the first time since I have been on RP. I hated making the decision, but I foresaw only bad blood between the two of us, and I would prefer to live without wondering when the "other shoe was going to drop".
If anything sexist, or in your opinion, "over the line" is said then you need to inform a site admin. If it happens more than once then it is time to go ahead and block the individual to prevent any future performances of the same kind toward you.

well, Sgt Kelli Mays, it's really hard to say as there are so many variables, however, if it warranted it, I would definitely "intelligently" question them in hope for a more engaged "intelligent" response, which works most of the time. For those times it doesn't or when I feel it's not worth my time, I just ignore it. After all, there is no sense in ruining my reputation because someone want's to be an idiot.

I think, "Well, that attacking response reflects fear and has become their 'default mode', and they apparently know no other way. Their circus, their monkeys--not mine."
