What are your thoughts on the garrison crackdown on...well..."crack down?"

There is a renewed emphasis on military posts across the services on cracking down on 'poor wear' of civilian clothes. What are your thoughts on this effort? Will it make much of an impact? Have YOU been fined for showing a bit too much skin?? I'm not sure of the overall lasting effects of this new emphasis. One thing is for certain, however. I will enjoy being out in public on post at the PX enjoying my Starbucks without trying to avoid seeing someone's "Spongebob Square Pants!"

You know, when I was a police officer, these were my favorite kinds of offenders - the ones that would commit a crime & then try to flee w/ their pants halfway down their butts. Its hard to run while holding whatever it is you stole in one arm, and holding your pants up w/ the other.
Sometimes they would forget to hold their pants up & fall face first onto the ground.
It is a horrible fashion that, I believe, would be discarded if those that wear their pants this way knew how it originated: in prisons, inmates would announce that they were 'available' by wearing the bottoms of their suits halfway down their butts.

That origin story is actually an urban legend. While it did originate in prison, it's more from ill-fitting prison garb than any type of "signal."

I don't know. My ex-wife was a counselor at the Missouri State Penitentiary & she said this was the case there. That is how the "block-bitches" announced they were single again.

Perhaps. Just like how horror movies somehow find their way to reality by virtue of some sick & twisted animal.

I have no problem with this, at all. Perfectly reasonable to enforce standards of dress on a military installation.

Padre, pardon my language but its about damn time. I have always hated seeing other peoples underwear.

I think that showing you A$$ is inappropriate regardless if you have underwear on or not! Pull them up!

If it brings discredit to the military, it should not be worn. Pants hanging so far below the waist line that the person has to walk with their legs pushed apart to keep them from falling down is not appropriate attire. Kudos to the comment about wearing civilian clothes being a privilege. I would have no problem putting someone in a uniform that showed up like that in front of me.

I just irks me when people (mostly males) walk around with their pants sagging/hanging off their ass. For Heaven's sake, pull your pants up and wear a belt. No one wants to see their underwear.

This is a tough one. I'm conflicted between saying it's inappropriate while on an installation and whether it's difficulty to enforce is worthwhile. With the high demands put on our military members today with much more frequent deployments and such I'm more inclined to say let it go. The other side of my brain really hates the foolish immature look of it. I would recommend to my Airman to pull them up if I had seen one of them doing it regardless of policy and I'd share with them the value appearances. This kind of appearance if seen and remembered by the right person could be the difference between a BTZ selection or other various considerations.

No I use a thing called respect as taught growing up, if the guys who wear their pants down like this really knew the start up of this fashion I wonder if they would continue doing it. It's unsanitary especially when entering a place that serves food.
