SGT (Join to see) You never know when someone will look at your profile picture, especially when you are searching for a job. I recommend a suit, nice smile, and a clean cut look. This is also how I looked on ID badges when I worked.

SGT (Join to see) If you're photographing a professional photo for someone else its going to vary on the individual. You'd want the photo to speak about that individual in the photo through their expression. As far as attire, the subject for the photo would make this vary. If its general, then professional attire ie suit or shirt/ tie/ blouse. Something like a portfolio or something similar would dictate.
If you're asking for yourself. I would keep the photo generic and neutral in business attire with small smile. You wouldn't want any bias opinions formed from your photo.
A great guy to check out in this specific style is Peter Hurley. He is a master in, "The Head Shot."

SGT (Join to see) - I have not. Ive watched his explanations on the head shot, few tutorials, behind the scene and how he got into it. The head shot crew is pretty new if I remember correctly. He created a network of head shot photographers all over.

As a civilian, I have no idea how to handle this. I think all my 'professional' photos have been less than I would like them to be.
For example, as a civilian, I had to have an ID photo taken when my CAC was re-issued and with the lighting and me just being ugly, I think it is one of the worst photos I have ever had taken.

Keep the photo, lose the flag and the uniform and replace with a suit and you're golden!
