Service, Utility, Dress/Mess Dress & PT uniforms: Do you have a great uniform idea, useful thoughts, input or opinion? well, here's your one-stop-shop to discuss/brainstorm/share research and new info/ideas/ insight and a place to archive all-of-the-above across 'all service branches.' Is there an aspect/feature/function of another service's uniform that you'd like to see carried-over to your own service? What input/ ideas/feedback do you have on your service (or other services') uniform? What popular or functional uniform features of the past would you like to see brought back? What ideas, functions, or features can be gleaned from other sources (NOAA or PHSC Corps, Coalition forces, Police, fire, paramilitary, rescue, security, contractors, etc.)? Have you served on a uniform board? Do you have expertise on this subject (or a related subject or discipline)? This should be a fun and productive conversation that will enable continued cross-service discussion. So put on your thinking caps, pull up a keyboard, and let's get this thing started; thank you for all that you do, and... see you all in the discussion threads!

I don't care what anyone says: I still think the WWII-era khakis and olive drab dress uniforms were sharp.

Not everyone could pull off the "Ike"...the fit has to be precise and the body composition matters. Headgear is highly subjective...the garrison cap & the beret are easy to carry but people either love or hate them, while the service cap is more formal or makes you look like a bus driver depending on who you ask.

For a utility uniform I would love to wear the OG-107 Jungle Fatigues in garrison. Someone recently told me that in a test they performed as well as camo 30 ft. in the woodline. Regardless, when deploying you would be issued the appropriate gear for the AO. For a dress uniform I agree that the Army should bring back khakis for class B and add the WWII style OD coat (possibly with belt) for class A. For PT uniforms I think we could do much better having Under Armour, Nike, Adidas etc. compete for the contract. Would have to be made in USA so would cost a lot more.

I agree with you 100% on the OG-107 for the garrison environment sir. In these times of woe and want they would be economical, functional (to a degree) out in the training areas and would foster a more professional appearance. The only thing the ACUs, ABUs, and NBUs are good at concealing are beer guts. The "greens" by virtue of being tucked in would foster more consciousness as to a Service Member's physical condition.
Any new PT uniform should negate the use of the reflective belt. The Class A uniform of each particular service should continue to carry on the traditions of that particular service.

As a former Marine, I am completely partial to the Dress Blues, and while proud of, do not love the AF Service Dress. The uniform jacket has no shape to it (too similar in cut to a suit). I would like to see-and I know that there is a uniform in the works-the AF go to a very sharp dress uniform. I would like to see hash marks for enlisted service. Additionally, the AF class C shirt is too thin/light weight. Should be made of a much heavier material and be slightly darker blue in color.<div>Do not even get me started on the green boots worn with the ABU uniform (which camouflages us against NOTHING). If we are not going to change the ABU, at least go back to the Desert Boots.</div><div>What I would like to see in a utility uniform would be a no-fooling digital camp uniform that would be the same for all services-with Branch designations on the chest (as already exist on each service's) to differentiate. In Garrison, all Officer ranks would shine, and all enlisted be subdued. By going to a standardized Utility, we could come up with one that is actually fully functional for all and top quality because there would be one company making them to HIGH STANDARDS.</div>

I like the Marine Corps' concept of transitioning from informal/business to formal by simply changing out the pants you wear. I really like the Blue pants with the Khaki shirt as an intermediate between the full Khaki uniform and the dress blue.

Always loved what was called the "Modified Blue" that is the khaki and blue (you see it all the time on recruiters)
