What can you do or say at Basic to ensure additional smoke sessions?

One of my platoon-mates at Sand Hill told our drill sergeants they reminded him of Ice Cube and Chris Tucker in Friday.

had a black DS doing inspection one morning at Ft. Polk (1972)...came up to me wanted to know how to pronounce my name....when I told him, he said something about bone my mom's ass then asked what I thought about that,...to which I replied...ready??....does that mean I can call you Daddy ??....I never knew how nasty red clay tasted with a size 11 jump boot trying to break your neck....all the other DS's were laughing their ass's off at him....nope..never did that again.....

Ah you don't have to say anything, just wait until they call your name for something and don't respond.

I went through basic at Ft. Jackson, S.C. Feb. 1965 through April 1968. We didn't mess with anyone in those days. That included E-3s and E-4s. We just kept our mouths shut and hoped that we weren't noticed until we graduated and got our packets. I think the cadre in basic are 'kinder' these days. When I went through, there were some WWII NCOS and lot of Korean War NCOS. They didn't mess around.

I'm laughing at how many (old-timers?) think we're discussing actual smoking of tobacco.

CWO4 Tim Hecht
Sarah - in Navy Boot Camp, San Diego, Summer of 1970 we weren’t “smoked” we went to “Marching Parties!” The Boot Camp issued weapon for drill purposes was the 1903 Springfield. We used to have to run around the parade ground with it held high over our heads; the rejoin the companies for what seemed like 2 hours of close order drill and the 16 Count Manual of Arms. Do not under any circumstances drop your rifle!

Arriving at company in Basic to meet the drills, one of which was a wacko E-7 named Stone. One of the new boots was named Stonebreaker, and made the mistake of grinning when Sgt Stone fronted him.
