Things you can do or say at basic to ensure additional smoke sessions.
I thought this would be a good way to add some humor to the discussions list.

Things like...:

- Simply ask "Why?" for anything.
- "That was easy." after getting smoked
- Complain about the heat/cold
- Touch the campaign hat.

I sent my younger sister a small box with a can of cherry Skoal, some twizzlers and a tampon.

The letter read something along the lines of

“Hello Drill Sergeant, I really appreciate everything you guys do so I decided to send a package with things that PVT. Ortega thought you’d enjoy. She said you were all a bunch of “Cherries”, not sure what that means but it sounds sweet. Thanks for your service, Hoohaa Siempre Fideos Soldier.”

When I went through basic training back in 1979 , we did a lot of fitness and I do mean a lot , we were allowed to have a smoke break only when requesting permission .

We had a guy in basic that did a perfect imitation of the Sr. Drill's voice....lol. Somebody snitched him out and was "invited" to let the Sr. Drill hear for himself... he did an excellent job of impersonating a bullfrog when he tried.

In 1981, Ft Jackson, Tank Hill, one of the first "coed" basic training battalions. Cute little female (so tiny, her boots were specially made!) greeted the Captain with a flip of the hand at her brim & "hi-ee!" She was out the day after the boots arrived.

We were required to " stand up an eat" in mess hall regularly if we didn't perform to S DI standards, front leaning rest in front of mess hall if anyone dropped a utensil
