I ran one of the five big ($1000+ in the late 60's) regular poker games on our ship. I maintained the ship's classified materials library, so I had an office down on the flag deck with the document safe in it. It was set up so materials could be read/studied without being taken out (read "had a table"). Wasn't hard filling the seats because almost nobody ever went to the flag deck, so we were never bothered. Ops Boss knew about it and told me I was on my own if we/I got caught, but he would not interfere unless documents were compromised, then he'd be the first one to crawl up my ass. He was a black shoe LtCdr.

A true Seabee would never shout all that meaningless Oorah, "All The Way sir, etc. like some mind numbed robot. We would say "F@@kin A" or other obscenity or "you gotta be S@@tin me".....

PO3 Bob McCord - Not in the Goat Locker. On amfib shipping back in the day, even us Marine SNCO's rated steak (when available) with a "steward" standing midwatch to cook it to order

I love talking phonetics.

I have had operators try to correct my Military Phonetics to "Law Enforcement" Phonetics.. Ah... good times.. when I refuse.

When somebody asks me to spell my last name, my reply is usually "Jump, as in Up and Down" ... or "as in Out of an Airplane" ... or "same as you learned to spell it in the second grade". That seems to work pretty well for me.

I’ve actually had to use phonetics to spell my last name out for somebody. How difficult is “Smith” to understand? {:•|)

If you hear them talking about the "bulkhead", "deck" and a "head" they are probably Navy or Marines. If they mention a REMF they are probably Army talking about all the other branches.

Once I was going down the hall in the barracks and saw a guy's orders on his door and printed on it was "PHYGMEAUX". For a second I thought, "WTF?"; then I got it. BTW, we were an intel unit with lots of linguists.
