I have seen many things recently that have caused me great concern with regards to criminal investigations by certain agents/investigators and the fact that there seems to be no recourse for actions that seem to be out of line.

I can only speak for the Army. All CID agents have a chain of command, who are not CID agents (Battalion and Brigade Commanders). Those Commanders, have to ensure the fidelity of the badge and the organization.

Inspector General of DOD.  Also, DOJ has final jurisdiction.

Neither one will touch an investigation agent complaint by a member under investigation until the case has been finalized, 2-15 years.

What checks and balances does the military have in place for untrustworthy criminal investigative services (NCIS,CID,etc.) agents?

All you can do is report bad actors to the chain of command or the IG...

When taken to the Inspector General personnel, I was told that they cannot look into an active criminal case. Therefore, you cannot use that option until your case is finalized. If fighting in appeals, that could take 10-15 years. This is why I was posting this question. I am sure that there are much smarter people than I out there.

Check with your chain of command...way back when, we would go JAG or the counter- intelligence section and a Special Agent would investigate the investigator. But like I said< Chief, that was a long time ago, i have a feeling, I'm just blowing wind. you're probably going to need someone on active duty to help answer your question.

This used to be true. When I asked, I was told that the internal review system in these organizations was removed a few years ago and now only the Inspector General can look into these matters. However, when taken to the Inspector General personnel, I was told that they cannot look into an active criminal case. Therefore, you cannot use that option until your case is finalized. If fighting in appeals, that could take 10-15 years. This is why I was posting this question. I am sure that there are much smarter people than I out there.
