I'm hearing/reading people saying "I'm old school, therefore..." So out of curiosity's sake, where is that ever-moving line?

Back in the '60's I asked the LtCol who was my NROTC MOI, "Colonel, when did the 'Old Corps' end and the 'New Corps' begin?" His response was that it depended on when you entered the Corps, for every Marine, the 'Old Corps' ended the day they joined.

That depends on when you served I guess. I came in 1990 and people who served in the 80's said, the 90s navy was too wishy washy. I'm sure the people in the 70's said the same thing about the 80's and before and before that and before that!!!.....That "Old School" is crap and was probably just before you served.

My response is related to the influx of computer technology into my old AF career field. The dependence on what computers can or have the capability to do has resulted, IMO, in a job force of clerks rather than career field technicians. For me, "old school" is being able to take the data we are given, analyze it per rules and practices and arrive at a decision process that produces a product of value to the customer. The way "we used to do it" and the way it is done now may produce the same physical product, but the knowledge to educate the customer about the product is severely lacking.

Because I was SSgt in AF not US Army in AF personnel jargon I was 732x0 and at time of GSU service I was 73270 X signified your skill level 3/5/7/9/; thus I retired as 73270 Personnel Supervisor SSgt
