I'm hearing/reading people saying "I'm old school, therefore..." So out of curiosity's sake, where is that ever-moving line?

Make Petraca does a good job of describing older soldiers, but not "old school". He didn't mention C Rats, M14, M1 Carbine, M3, starched Khakis and Fatigues, yellow rank on Fatigues, Specialist 6, 7 & 8, 3/4 ton trucks and more. Now that is "Old School".

The culture and style of correction. In the modern military far to often "poor behavior" gets met with paperwork, reprepemands and Article 15s.

Old school: Extra PT, KP, cleaning details etc.

In the modern military also emphasizes individual expression, cultural heritage, and acknowledges "feelings" too heavily.

Old school: You were yelled at, and shamed for failing a function/test, poor performance, being overweight, uniform not in regulation...

There was also a lot of emphasis on unit conformity regardless of race and cultural heritage. Everyone was a Marine, Airman, Soldier or Sailor first.

Colored PT Shorts? Guess that makes me Old, Old School! We did PT in fatigues and combat boots! I predate the Gamma Goat but, know all about cattle cars, WWII prefab barracks and, riding in deuce and a halfs. My BCT weapon was a M-14!

I don't know about yellow nylon PT shorts or gray cotton PT shorts, but in my Army we ran in fatigue pants, white T-shirt and boots, daily dozen and a two-mile run, singing cadence like "Up jump the Monkey from the Coconut Grove he was a mean (etc. etc)., " , well I'll have to leave it there since I was counseled by TOP back in the day that it was not appropriate cadence anymore.
