I'm hearing/reading people saying "I'm old school, therefore..." So out of curiosity's sake, where is that ever-moving line?

I can add....Jungle Boots or just the old, black issue Combat Boot. The "Gig Pit" in Jump School. Infantry School at Ft. Polk, La. Mule Barn Barracks. I could go on. Oh....Humping the 90MM Recoilless Rifle on monthly road marches that happened every week. Just some memories.

Sept 67: I'm a freshman ROTC cadet in college. The SGM at the ROTC detachment was #9 to be promoted to the rank of E-9. He has enlisted in 1943 as a cannon-cocker or his CIB would have had 2 stars.

Lived in WWII barracks up in Adak, Alaska in the 60's and WWII barracks in Atsugi, Japan in the mid-1970's. Had to have a liberty card to get off/on base/ship until early 1970's - PO1 (E-6, USN) pretty much had control over your life unless he was to the wall power mad crazy. Yes to the cattle car towed around base with a semi-truck, Roach-Coach during watches for lunch/dinner. Lots of changes from my 1969-1999 career.

Did PT in fatigues and combat boots, pull Guard duty with M-1, had c and k Rats. Put paste wax on floor by hand before buffing. Powder eggs and milk and bacon out of a can.

My dad went from E-1 in Feb 1945 to a W-3 by the early 60s. He thought he was old school and all the New Vietnam guys were newbies.
When I went active duty in 1977, him and all the Vietnam guys ( my instructors) said they were old school and that my generation of active duty folks were a bunch of pussies.
Fast forward 25 years later,,,, I am yelling at some young troop to get their head out of their ass and they file a harassment complaint...

In the Navy if you wore 100% wool cracker jacks and dungarees and Chambray shirts you qualify as old school! Also if you could party all night and make to muster on time at 0800!!LOL

Yup, did all those things except the yellow shorts. We did our run's in boots and had both a green dress uniform and a brown one. Had brown boots too that we had to sandpaper off and stain black.

When I was in, "Old School" referred to the brown shoe days.
