I'm hearing/reading people saying "I'm old school, therefore..." So out of curiosity's sake, where is that ever-moving line?

Do you mean "Brown Shoes or the brown boots I was issued at Ft Ord that had rough out bottoms and 2 buckles on the top? Or the HBT fatigues w/cargo pockets top and bottom?
By the way, as an aspiring Pvt 2, I learned to spit Shine those boots and would carry them to guard mount so the Kiwi wouldn't crack before inspection. It didn't always work; I walked guard once at Ft Knox, Colonel Smith, Armor, missed having me as orderly the next day.

Whatever someone else has, that you don't. Won't matter. Someone used to say, if you ain't airborne you ain't shit. So I went airborne. Then it was jump master. Then I didn't have a star. Then I didn't have a wreath. Then it was how many PJ duties I performed. Blah!

I still laugh at the airborne troops with their paratrooper jump wings, then senior jump wings, and finally master jump wings. These were earned by completing a number of jumps. Then in Granada a young trooper just out of jump school completed his cherry jump into granada and earned the coveted combat jump star. The old timers were PO'd but he had the MOS and the assignment, get over it.

I jumped into Sicily, Normandy, st mere eglise, Rhine Luzon, and Korea. Sure it was all on bragg and in South Korea and not while bullets were flying at me. Lol. Those had to be tough. My old plt daddy jumped into panama. He was a rigger. Landed in some black Palm thorns or something of the sort. Said that was a hell of a jump. There are paratroopers with mustard stains from jumping into Afghanistan and Iraq. I don't envy any of it. Had I been there to do it, would gladly. But I'm not a ribbon hunter. If called upon, damn sure I will answer. If a PFC has the stain, I simply say "badass"! He deserves the credit.

So you are in Kaiserslautern? Does Kleber Kaserne, or as the Germans called it Drei und Zwanziger kaserne still exist. I was in Co B 440th Sig Bn in the Barracks right in front of the PxX and Barber Shop for 30 months Nov 1962-jun 1965. is the American Lutheran Service Center still in the Fackel Roundel, in the down town?

It's weird to think the younger generations will still think they had it rough as a young member as easy as the military is nowadays compared to way back when.

everyone keeps talking about wearing the banana suit during PT. I am having a hard time imagining soldiers wearing this.
