What could be a valid reason for not allowing females to wear earrings with ACU's?

I always wanted to know different points of view about this topic. This is not about "go join other branch of service if you want to wear earrings". It is just that other branches perform same job as I do and earrings do not stop them to be completely professionals and be successfull with their duties.<div><br></div><div>For the record I had my reasons to choose Army, but I was entirely qualified to join any other branch at that time.</div>

1. Uniformity and equality. let the females/ must let the males do it. I rather neither of us do it
2. Soldiers do run through training/drills and have to get their face in the dirt occasionally. Earrings can get caught up on things. They're a safely concern

Different point: Garrison uniform should be class B or A. Unless your job gets you dirty, then you wear coveralls. If you are under arms/training, it's ACUs.
No one likes that idea aside of me.

I am not apposed to the class B or A uniform at least every friday. It would teach soldiers discipline in keeping up with at least one of our uniforms.

I like SSG Joshua B's idea with the dress uniform being a Friday thing. I don't know what an average duty day is like for your unit SSG Carl B, but with my units at Fort Riley and Fort Campbell there wasn't much unscheduled time. Nine times out of ten if there wasn't something pressing happening then platoons were outside conducting some kind of training, which often involved mussing up their ACUs a tad. Infantrymen and cavalry scouts like to play in the mud apparently.

From my knowledge Air Force is allowed to wear earrings in ABU's. Ive actually seen AF in a deployed setting wearing earrings diamonds and pearls.

SSG Beach, I thought you were kidding so I had to look it up. You were serious and so are their regs: Female Airmen may wear small (not exceeding 4mm in diameter) spherical, conservative (moderate, being within reasonable limits; not excessive or extreme) round white diamond, gold, white pearl, or silver earrings as a set with any uniform combination. YES, ANY uniform! Off we go ...

Yes, Air Force women can wear the earrings per AFI 36-2918, to include the clip on versions. They may wear only one thus, no doubles in each ear. I would've preferred no earrings at all. Piercings of all kinds--to include ear piercings, gross me out. As a kid, I would almost get sick when I'd see the pierced ears of a woman. Yes, I was a weird kid and am still somewhat weird.

I guess if it comes to actual combat, if all else fails, dazzle them with the brilliance of your jewelry. Wow, white diamond, gold, white pearl, or silver earrings with a combat uniform. Bandoleer optional I guess.

I don't know much about this but if you look at this image you perhaps may see the young SM wearing earrings.

Just so you know that is Croatia not Slovakia. The flag is similar but if you look closely you can see the Croatia on the bottom and the colors are out of order. Also the dark brown on their uniforms is a outline of the Croatian Map. As for earrings most European Armies allow them but they regulate the size and color and also when they can be worn. My big concern would be safety. Getting one ripped out during a maneuver exercise would probably suck. Instead of always trying to decided when and where they can be worn just banning them is easy. Don't we have enough to worry about. Besides we are moving into females in combat arms so we need to start making all regulations more gender neutral. We could start by banning the purse.

Being born and raised in Slovakia, they can wear them indeed. There was a shortage of Slovak female soldiers willing to deploy to Afghanistan the last time I went (with US Army). The flag is Croatian though, as the SFC above me mentioned. I don't really care either way, as long as the soldier can do their job.

If the earrings are "big-ass hoops" like J Lo, Beyonce and other entertainers then No, for a small basic earring then no big deal.

SFC Williams, thanks for the response. I know Air Force can wear it and of course they have a regulation for sizes etc. I think that it could be allowed in Garrison.

I haven't noticed till recently, but AF women wear them, even here in Afghanistan, and I can honestly say, its distracting

I totally agree with SSG Hasbun with the statement it is easier to ban it than regulate. There are enough soldiers that push AR 670-1 to the limit, then complain about being singled out when corrected.

Something to remember SGT Santiago, and you even said it in your post, you chose this life/ career. That being said, you chose to follow the Rules and Regulations put forth by the Army. If the Regulations state that you are not to wear earrings, you nod your head in agreement and drive on, not question it. Once, or if, the Regulations change, then you can abide by the new standards. I know I've been out for a while, but last I heard, no one was forced into service...

I often wondered the opposite. I often wondered why female Marines are allowed to wear earrings in their cammies (that's what we call them, lol). For one it sets them apart from their male counterparts, which the whole point of a uniform is, well, uniformity. In Blies or a Service uniform it isn't as noticeable therefore I have no problem with it. But when in camouflage it's pretty dang obvious and IMHO looks odd. You ladies want equality right? Well, there you go, men can't wear them nor should women.
