This year I went on my first cruise and really enjoyed the experience. It was great to sit back and be waited on and taken care of my entire vacation. I never went on a cruise because I felt it would be to regimented for me, I was dead wrong. We sailed from New Orleans to Mexico, Honduras, Belize and a second port in Mexico. We sail Norwegian and love the freestyle dining.

I have over 100+ cruises on every line except Disney. It all depends on destination and age of passenger. They all have there pros/cons. If children are involved, Carnival & Princess is the best, older passengers, Holland America & Celebrity, if you prefer more formal cruise Cunard is the best. Alaska cruises Princess has the best itinerary, a fun/cheap cruise Carnival, if the sea is a problem for you, Royal Caribbean is more like a resort than a cruise.

CW5 Andrew J. Foreman Don't let me be a wet blanket on your cruise expectations but - We took our daughter and granddaughters on a Carnival Carib cruise for her #40. We left from Galveston for 7 days. Now to me it was some sort of a nightmare experience even after having been deployed on USN ships of war on several occasions. The ship is a giant floating hotel with thousands of guests all crammed together with no place to go, except to wait in long lines for everything, sun decks, pools and spas crowded, bored teens riding the elevators up and down all day. Cabin was fairly nice and I enjoyed napping most of the time as the boat gently bobbed along its way. Getting on and off was no picnic either as there were long waits to board and to collect bags and go through customs on the way out. Shore excursions were generally extra, although I did enjoy a visit to a rum factory on PR where we drank and brought all the rum we legally could. Now for a more positive report check with PO3 Steven Stinnett. Anchors Away Mate..

Sorry you had a bad experience. On Norwegian we did not wait in lines at all. I found my own shore excursions so on my own while on shore. Coming back though US customs was a breeze, if you could carry off your own bags we left the ship first during a 3 hour block. We basically walked off the ship and right through customs. The only thing I did not like was smoking on the ship. The put the outside smoking forward so it blew across the ship and inside it was in the casino at mid ship. However, agree with you Capt Tom Brown the rocking of the ship was great for naps and sleeping at night. We left our balcony open all night so we could hear the waves and feel the breeze.

I have cruised countless times on small craft in the Chesapeake Bay, around the Hawaiian Islands, and the East and West Coasts of North America. I will be taking my first trip on a cruise ship this November with my family including three young granddaughters on the Disney Fantasy. My brother, who has cruised many times (even as a dance partner for the old ladies) says he wouldn't be caught dead on a Disney cruise. Yes, we're that different. My only concern is that they won't let me drive the ship
