Any job big or small that created doubt about whether to stay in the military.

Took the big ride. Never considered retirement until I was stationed in DC. What a cesspool. There is no military at the Pentagon, just a bunch of politicians trying to be someone and get a high paying retirement job. I did my 25 years, proud of it. Now I just shake my head. . . . . . .

I realized that the grass is just as green on the outside as the inside. I have no one lying to my face anymore telling me they care.
The army had a lot of rank chasers and they don't give a shit about soldiers family needs.

Rank chasers? YES.
Lying they care? YES.
Do we have real leaders? YES, rare. Every one else just protecting their backs and mimic the registrations.

The point to remember is that all of the jackasses in the army came from outside.

My 3rd and last deployment pretty much sealed the deal for me. I went from the 82nd to the 1st Cav. And we lost someone in my platoon to an IED around Christmas. almost everyone in my platoon was hit with an IED. I had one direct hit to my cab and 2 near misses. I had a chain of command that really didn't make us feel like what we did mattered. I had to get out before I snapped on somebody. I wasn't in the best mental state. I truly felt my unit was going to get me killed. Their was a 2LT who wouldn't wait for eod to clear routes before we went out on supply missions and e-5's who had no business being e-5's and corporals who felt the were e-5's. I know this is typical for any unit but when you go from 82nd to cav their is a BIG difference. There was no comradery or unit cohesion whatsoever, it was everyman for himself, you felt no one had your back. I was not going to survive another deployment with that group. so I got out since they wouldn't send me back to the 82nd where I felt safe

Ive alwayswondered if the 82nd is so great why isnt the rest of the army where you guys pcs to, why didnt you take that greatness and comraderie and spread it, the 82nd is like any place has its good and bad, the question is what part did you take in it, ive done my time at Bragg so ive seen it

Still the same... left the reserves to go active and at least stay two contracts... Now I wish myself back to the reserves fast enough...
