What do the spn codes on our dd214 mean?

Well I have not seen a new one in years. On Copy 4 (I believe) then Code was a Re Enlistment Code. Mine for example is "4R" meaning not eligible for re enlistment due to Retirement

It's a separation code. It's a 3 digit numeric/alphanumeric that represents the reason for a discharge. 201 is ETS, 264 is unsuitability, character and behavior disorders, 294 is special court martial, etc, etc.

SPN codes have been replaced by Separation Codes so now they're a 3 letter code. The last one I got was MBK for Experation of Term of Service.

In 1983 mine showed as RE 1A.
