I'd add looking at property tax and comparables. We looked at our house as an investment. So with that in mind you are making an investment decision. How do you see X house/ property in 10 years and then factor in the surrounding area.

A home inspection is a must to keep from getting stuck with issues that cost afterwards. Checking the neighbors and the neighborhood helps to keep from moving next to a crazy neighbor.

Distance to work. Only factor I look for. But of course final decision was made - in our case, the highest ranking officer in the House.

COL (Join to see) I agree with "Distance to work" Spent way too much time deployed and missing out with Wife & Kids. Would not waste precious time spent home base traveling back and forth to work. Semper Fi

SSG(P) Drew Hunnicutt - Living in Los Angeles suburbs to live in a nice neighborhood took me and some other employees an hour to an hour and a half from home. Traffic is another problem here in the US for traveling to and from work.

1:Schools as we had kids
2:The garage
3:Fenced outside area for our dogs
While the phrase, If wife is not happy, no one is happy is a truism. Its also true in our family at least, If I did not have a place to work on the things I enjoy, I was not going to be happy, and an unhappy Me is not a good thing.

SGM Erik Marquez - I will speak to Iron Mike, but he's an ornery cuss. Generally when I ask for an apology, what I get is something entirely different.
We've got five. Two livestock guardians (Dogue de Bordeau - English Mastiff miixes), and two herding dogs (Rough Collie - Standard Poodle Mixes). My wife's dog is a Beagle Basset mix.

Maj John Bell - My dogs died long before our children have especially last year. My youngest daughter graduated or was let out of college her last year last year during the pandemic so she remained in college for her master's. Our youngest son graduated this year but the jobs are not what they use to be away from home so he is still home. Surprise.
