Elements from the Mike Force, along with a split team from A-342 Dong Xoai, made the jump into Bunard on April 2, 1967 to establish the camp I served at less than two years later. The name of the operation was Harvest Moon, not to be confused with the USMC operation of the same name.

The Mike Force was a quick reaction force. One of the Commanders was Bo Gritz.

They saved our bacon 8-9 June ‘67. Imagine what lurks just outside of your artillery’s fan. It was an entrenched element of the Dong Thap Regiment, either the 261 or 263 main force battalion. The IV Corps MSF came into a very warm lz. Do green tracers mean someone doesn’t like you? Two of the four of my teammates were medevaced leaving the dai uy and the SP5 in charge of what was left of two companies of CIDG.

You're still watching the grass grow from the photosynthesis side, SP5 Mark Atchison, so your earned your position as SP5IC. The bad guys are watching the grass grow from the nutrient uptake side. Regards, my old friend.

I think they were mercenaries. Saw a M-3 carbine with a Mike force unit. Only time I saw one in person.

I served with two of the 5 MIKE Forces and am proud of my service with both. The memories are bittersweet but over all, I remain happy that I survived.
