The sum of its parts (challenges) the military faces in 2023 is the danger of insufficient funding by Congress. Inadequate funding severely affects our military's critical programs and operations in maintaining strategic advantages. There are too many vital programs of responsibility that can harm our country, especially now with dictators stirring the pot. A weak link in the chain can escalate across the 360-degree spectrum of national security.
Cybersecurity, with the advancement of Artificial Intelligence, is a menace now and will grow exponentially as government actors and hackers spy, steal, damage, supply misinformation, or create leaks causing imminent crises to our national security.
Insufficient funding is present now, preventing financial budget sabotage of our country. Sometimes, enemies are in and out without notice, planting spyware or extracting sensitive strategic or classified defense information. Military personnel can also steal personal and sensitive information to destroy their character and finances or be recruited. Funding is needed to prevent disruption of critical infrastructure and stop the theft of sensitive information that would compromise military communications and control systems, which impacts the efficiencies of military readiness.
Misinformation contributed to the success of World War II. It is alive and well now in social media, only to escalate when enemy nations see an attack or defense as imminent. Disinformation campaigns that spread false or misleading information about military operations damage the morale of military personnel and the public's trust. Disinformation can also cause a shutdown of military operations, damaging infrastructure and leaving the military and our country vulnerable to attack.
If our critical defense systems, such as missile defense systems, satellite communications, and other critical infrastructure, are compromised, it would harm the ability of the military to defend against incoming threats. In addition, targeting our electrical grid, water, food, and energy supply would lead to widespread disruption damaging our economy and national security.
Martin Luther said, "We refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in this nation's great vaults of opportunity." I add, funding the sum of all the vital parts of military duties and operations allows the military an opportunity to anticipate evolving high-tech and imminent global threats. Elected officials unaware of the big picture of national defense need never-ending exposure to the danger of insufficient funding for our military.

There are several military challenges facing us, including Ukraine and Taiwan. Getting involved with both will severely limit our ability to continue to provide weapons to our friendly nations, and worse, our other adversaries (North Korea, Iran, etc.) are aware of it and might use this moment as their opportunity to attack us.

Administration and the democrats have no respect and have no idea of the value of the U.S. military, other that the political value, look at the cluster f—k of a withdrawal that happened in Afghan and Vietnam

Another issue that needs to be addressed immediately is the military-wide suicide rates. Troops need help, which may have to come with coordination with civilian agencies and entities. The stigmatism that you must be tough and never seek help has to stop.

The military has to stay relevant while still providing good order and discipline. With all of the different opinions and various outside organizations, many people believe in the concept of "what's in it for me" versus the former military service for love of country, pride, discipline, etc. A delicate balance between opposing or contradictory opinions, individualism, and specific rights/privileges coincides with proper military standards and conduct. For all US citizens to be free, a strong military is needed, but as many mentioned, troop strength and dedication to extended military service commitments are dwindling.

the military's greatest problem is getting unwoke recruits who are a bunch of whiners. they have idiot sounding pronouns and think they are another sex, which isn't possible. the military has too many woke in charge nowadays.

I would imagine that the greatest challenge in 2023 for the military will be defending American soil after taking citizens AR-15s and eventually all guns while simultaneously arming our enemies overseas with millions and millions of dollars worth of weapons and vehicles... as well as spending BILLIONS of taxpayer dollars on a war with one of the most corrupt countries in it's hemisphere all while there is a chance they'll just cave in and join their oppressors in invading us to save themselves due to massive political corruption.

China. China continues to become more aggressive and ignores the rules. China knows the U.S. needs it for our survival as well. Most everything is made there these days. I wish the military and other government organizations were able to better assist the veterans, expats, who move overseas. It is like, no help for you because you do not live in the States. Sorry. We give these countries millions in aid every year and protect them. Why is it so difficult to set up satellite offices or care centers for we who do not live in the States? Sad.

Recruiting. Military service has to offer better compensation (pay, housing, benefits) and actual better post-service recognition from the civilian and federal sector (not just "Thanks for your service" platitudes).
