I'm not surprised. I think it is behavior that has been occurring for a long time, and people are finally emboldened to lash back out about it. People are learning that they don't have to put up with this type of behavior, and that society is now ready to punish people for it. I just hope our society doesn't overcorrect.

SPC Randy Torgerson - When people are immediately skeptical of the accusers, and choose to paint them with a broad brush (as many people are doing), I think that is indeed a form of victim shaming. Instead of just letting the process play out, people who cast them as only seeking money/fame/etc. (simply due to the length of time between the incident and the accusation) are very much attempting to convict them through public opinion.

LTC Kevin B. - I don't disagree with you. And certainly I'm not saying they are looking for money or something else. I'm saying in our conversation here that its reasonable to ask why or what the motivation is for waiting so long. Does such a lengthy delay in reporting or going public with the accusations give me pause as to the credibility of the accuser? You betcha it does. That sir, is not unreasonable or shaming. Please don't disguise this as shaming the victim simply because we bystanders seek the truth and ask questions about something completely reasonable to ask.

Or do you think no one should question the motives of an alleged victim?

SPC Randy Torgerson - I have no problem with investigators probing that potential motivation, and I have no problem with those discussions being held within the courtrooms. However, I do have problems with it being discussed within the broader public domain as a narrative that is designed to delegitimize the accusers, well before they get their day in court. I'm not saying that you specifically are doing that. However, others (on here and elsewhere) are certainly doing that.

LTC Kevin B. - Thank you for some clarification. I agree with you. And further to be clear, my comments are not for the purpose of de-legitimizing the accusers. Only to discuss and point out that such long waiting times to complain do deserve heavy scrutinization. The public never ever have all the facts and the media only tells us what they want us to know. We all know that the media is not very reliable and usually just tells one side of what they think they know.

This is a public forum for open discussions about what our military and veterans have in they're minds. Its not a place to disparage others. Even if sometimes our members or myself, are not good conveyors of our own thoughts, we don't speak to disparage the alleged victims.

Hollywood = sex scandals. Google Fatty Arbuckle, Gloria Grahame, Montgomery Cliff, Roman Polanski, Woody Allen, Pee Wee Herman, etc.
