Having lived the first 18 years of my life as a dependent, it really didn’t have to prove anything. It did however show me a number of things that would forever shape my future. Regulations are your friend, learn to read them broadly for the wo/man to your left and right with interpret differently. Although teamwork is built, you can’t always trust the guy to your left or right, because when it comes to their career or yours, integrity goes right out the door. While proving yourself, someone else will likely get credit for the work performed. Teamwork lasts only as long as the next promotion. Success and drive are held back by those whom fear your future supervision. A good mentor comes around only once in a lifetime. The more you take care of those whom work for you, the bettor your success. Just because a soldier doesn’t/cannot score high on their PT doesn’t make them a poor soldier, not everyone is athletic. Some of the smartest people you will ever work with, lack common sense. Always be sure and to find the quietest person in the room and ask them for their opinion. Your gut is never wrong. Change is inevitable, take it in stride - it was in the fine print. And finally, the medals simply get you a better burial plot. - Going for gold isn’t all its cracked up to be. All-Service Sports Programs are overshadowed by the WCPs, and shouldn’t be - every sport should be treated equally. A few things my enlistments taught me.

My military experience proved that USAF Technical Training can provide a marketable skill. I have been working in the exact same field I trained for in 1979. I recently had my 30th anniversary with Boeing with a salary over $100,000
I was an Avionics Tech for 5.5 years in the Air Force. After breaking my neck and back in the line of duty, I was given a disability discharge, but had a job as a technician on the B-1B Production Flight Test within three weeks of being discharged.
Three years later I accepted an offer from McDonnell Douglas to teach aircraft systems to customers after they purchase their aircraft. I get to travel around the world (Business Class, or First Class instead of "Cargo Class").
The only thing I regret about my military service was the injuries that got me forced out and cause lifelong pain... requirung $83,000 worth of Titanium screws and rods holding my neck together (plus over $220,000 in surgical fees)

Thanks to my enlistment in the Army from 1987 to 2008, I was able to stand on my own two feet, provide for my family, get a college education, and succeed in life.

I served my country when asked and as an enlisted leader, I did everything to get my people back home. With minor extra holes to one, I fulfilled that!
