Two weeks ago I started a new job. Needless to say beyond the nerves that one feels transitioning to a new job, there is the excitment of getting yourself and your desk set up. I knew we have had a thread here before asking people to show their desks off but as I was putting somethings together I got to asking myself, what does all this say about me? Am I presenting myself in the manner I want to show my new employer and coworkers? Either in a cube farmer or the nice corner office on the upper most floor, you learn and teach people a lot of the person that sits there by what you put on your desk. As I look around my new desk, I hope that the fact that all the PC cables are organized shows people I have a strict eye for attention to detail. That the pictures of my two awesome kids show them that I'm a proud father. That the little Anger guy from Pixar's 'Inside Out' shows them that I'm aware of my attitude. There are a few more things I want to put on display but there is only so much one can fit in a laptop case so it's a start.
So stop and look around, what's on your desk? What do those things say about you? What sort of "personal brand message" are you showing those that come into your office?

Mine says retired. When I was active it was a controlled disaster area. I could always find what I needed. Drove the ring tappers nuts.

It always amazes me that people like you can work so easily in the controlled chaos. You walk in and see this crazy pile of stuff but ask for something and within seconds you pull it up. Yet, someone else touches just one thing and your system is lost. LOL
Just interesting to see how different people work so differently yet achieve the same results.

I do my best to minimize time spent at my desk and maximize time in the shop with my Airmen. That being said, I have a few items on my desk that reflect some of my interest in the outdoors, military history, and Jeeps. I also try to keep it clean and professional looking.

I actually had the chance to see "Gramps" while on display here in Pittsburgh! For those that don't really follow Jeeps, Gramps is the oldest existing WWII jeep still around today. Gramps, and the thousands of Jeeps used across Europe during this time led us to the military vehicles we use today.

Nice! I got to see one of the other original 1941 Willys Jeeps last year at a Jeep show my dad organized.
