What habit(s) have you been unable to break after leaving the military?

Just to start the conversation, I still make sure that my 'gig' line is straight every single time I get dressed.

Being able to wake up 5 minutes before my alarm no matter when I set it for.
If your on time your late.
Always setting out my clothes before turning in.

Great question! Among many of the others, keeping my closets dress right dress in order of length (coats, jackets, suits etc...)

Definitely the gig line. And I never go outside without a cover. That's definitely post-military, since I never wore hats of any kind before. But I've always wolfed down my food - wanted to get out to recess ahead of the other kids - and I've always been on time, if not early.

I was married before entering the military - she put up with a lot of military situations and garnered the respect of other military wives. She was the bell of the balls and an excellent spokesperson and aiding other military wives. 22 yrs later, I retired from the military and we entered our post military civilian life. After 52 yrs of marriage we are still together. I don't like to think of of her or our lives as a habit. But I am sure things like eating baked nachos on Sunday afternoons and watching movies like the entire Downton Abbey on Sundays twice a year would be considered by others as a habit. And Joseph, I also check my "gig" line is straight and that I have a hat on before heading to town :)

I always reported to work early. Always pre-warned my boss if a problem was coming her way.

I was able to break finishing a meal in 5 minutes. That's the only 1.
Really short hair. Don't want to look like a "damn hippie".
"If you're 10 min early, you're never late." Always make a point to be on time
Military time
Not walking on the grass (unless absolutely unavoidable)
I come to the position of attention during pledge of allegiance at my kid's school before covering my heart. Any other position just looks lazy and disrespectful. Non-prior service don't know - and that's ok.
Just to name a few... "You can take the boy out of the military, but you can't take the military out of the boy."

Waking up at the lightest sound. It’s been over 20 years and I still have a hard time sleeping past 0400hrs.
