Thanks for letting us know SSG Carlos Madden. I did not realize that Abraham Lincoln had applied for a patent. According to the record on May 22, 1849, Abraham Lincoln received Patent No. 6469 for a device to lift boats over shoals, an invention which was never manufactured. However, it eventually made him the only U.S. president to hold a patent. I imagine it takes a lot longer to have a patent generated nowadays than in Abe Lincoln's time [3/10/1849 - 5/22/1849]
