I have just reclassed for 89D and will be heading to school January of 2022 I am currently in South Korea with my wife and two kids and I am trying to figure out what will happen since EOD training in FT. Lee is 8 weeks they cant come with me so would they go to Eglin or would they allow me to stay off base with them in a hotel during phase 1? And it should be TDY enroute.

SGT (Join to see) it's very clearly spelled out. One option is move them where you want and pay. The other option is move them to your follow on station which is Eglin and the Army pays

I see the options that say that SFC, I just didn't understand the pay out of pocket portion as in if Id still get bah and the Army pay for flights from Korea or everything the entire time and distance I would pay out of pocket until I moved to Eglin. If while TDY enroute at Fort lee Id be able to move them to Eglin or just move them home with family until phase 2 at Eglin starts. That's what was kind of confusing to me Because my PCS is for March But Id be moving my family in more towards the end of December to start Phase one the beginning of January.

SGT (Join to see) you won't be able to do anything while you're TDY in school, you'll be in school. You can't miss school. The Army will pay the price of your family to the states all the way to Eglin. Anything else is at your own expense. That means when you file your travel voucher DFAS will pay whatever it costs to fly from Korea to Eglin.
What you need to do is move them to Eglin ahead of time, park them there, and go TDY to Fort Lee for phase 1. You will receive BAH for Eglin (which is pretty high). Don't move your family around multiple times. Then when you finish Phase 2 you will PCS again

Thank you for the advice SFC, That's what I was thinking of doing getting them settled in down in Eglin then just go to school since its such a short time.

Unless it's changed it should be TDY en-route. Not sure what they do with the families now. NAVSCOLEOD is no joke. Any distractions that keep you from being 100% focused on training can lead to problems. If your wife is pretty self sufficient and isn't mad that you spend all day in class and then study hall at night you should be good. Weekends are yours but don't loose sight of what's at the end of a year's worth of training. I was an instructor for over 5 years and saw lots of troops get derailed by loss of focus.
Best of luck when it comes time. I don't know about Lee but a call to the Army Liaison office at Eglin might get you the answer. Here are the digits, I think they are still current.

I’m ready to start school I’m gonna try to OJT with a the EOD unit here a month or two before I leave If possible and I’m ready to leave Korea while I’m at it haha I appreciate the feed back and Insight I tried going EOD at my initial enlistment but there weren’t slots but not I got everything approved just waiting for class.

SGT (Join to see) - That would be nice if you could hang at an EOD shop and get spun up a bit. Ordnance ID and terminology would be helpful. The teamwork concept is really important at the school house. You never know whos watching, and the guy you help might be able to repay you in another division that you need help in. You might get stationed with someone you didn't help, and that makes for a poor working environment. Besides, nobody wants to burn bridges in a small career field where you can get a reputation that will proceed you to every new assignment.

TSgt David L. that would be great if they let me learn a little from them before school and get a better idea of how it’s gonna be and I help as much as I can and highly that karma comes back around haha it’s always good to have a good team it’s a pain when you can’t work together very effectively

TSgt David L. that’s how I try to live anyway cause honestly anything could happen at any time so you can’t just be worried all day everyday just do what you can by training and preparing then hope for the best but prepare for the worst I think that’s how the saying goes
