My husband reenlisted for a stabilization of 18 months minimum at our current duty station. We are trying to PCS before our baby is born next January for a solid family care plan. We are both in the MACP and I am the higher rank. His 18 months will be for filled next year July but, the tricky part is that our CAB is deploying in the spring time. Someone mentioned a curtailment where he serves 6 months of his obligated time and we can submit a waiver to waive his 18 months. I’m not sure how true this is or what a curtailment is specifically. Can someone explain to me what a curtailment is and how I can use it to waive his extension. Thank you.

Curtailment: the action or fact of reducing or restricting something.

Tell your husband to visit his Retention NCO, his Commander, and his BN S1. Between those three, he will get the information and assistance he will need.

I would just add that curtailment is the opposite of requesting an extension. It's an administrative action to request to shorten a tour of duty from the current assignment. It's usually a one-page memorandum THRU your chain of command and TO HRC. The SUBJECT line will read closely to this:
SUBJECT: Request to Extend/Curtail Rank FirstName MI LastName, Unit Name.
The body of the memo will start with line 1. Request approval to extend/curtail Rank Last Name, Title, Unit Name, Location from Date to Date. Line 2. Reason/s for requesting a curtailment.
As MSG Livingston commented, your Retention NCO is a primary POC who can get this started and the S1 to get it moving through the chain of command.

Great info on the memorandum! When I was trying to transfer from Medic to MP, my local unit was ready to assist me. I wrote a THREE page memorandum. My 1SG rolled his eyes and said he was going to teach me something and told me to come back in an hour. When I did, he handed me a memo with three SHORT PARAGRAPHS! It worked ... well, that was part of how I transferred, but he said that NO ONE would take the time to read an essay! LOL
Immediately, I patterened all such documents after his. I called it the "Reader's Digest version." At the time, I was amazaed how you could say the same thing in such a short memo.
