What is/are some constructive ideas, principles, or methods for transitioning well into "civilian" America?

Service in military awards us with many talents, work ethics, and skills. Bit for many of us, it seems that we become "institutionalized", so what is/are good advice tips to help is blend in better, but not lose the sharp edge we honed so well! What fears did/do you have about transitioning out of the military? How did you cope?

I had the opportunity to talk with transitioning military personnel at the U.S. Air Force Academy recently. As you might expect, there were some fears and concerns with leaving the service. For those of you who have made the transition, what were some of your fears? How did you cope?
