I have noticed that some people are drawn to some MOSs just for the chance to be involved in combat, whereas there are some people that are drawn to other MOSs in order to avoid it. What is it about combat that ultimately draws or scares some people so much?

Probably the probability ratio of death and maiming that exists in some MOS's over some others. "What is it about combat that ultimately draws or scares some people so much?". Combat is one of those things that looks cool rite up till the realization that the enemy has a vote and can shoot back sets in.

No doubt, CSM. Sometimes they even get paid to do so. It was a lot more fun playing Army when I was a kid. Not as worthwhile, but definitely more fun. Also, I don't remember the "kit" I wore weighing quite as much when I was playing in the back yard.

The possibility of facing your own mortality would be a big reason. Some feel they don' fear it and others do fear it.

Yep. I was going to say death or the fear of it as well.

I know for myself it's the honor and challenge of it. I'm looking into reclassing for that reason.
