My husband recently just got his approved 368 conditional release back and will be going to meet with the recruiter Monday to get paper work going and set up MEPS date. Since he is all green for all of his med pros we are assuming he'll just go straight to career counselor. Can anyone shed some light on that process? Will they give him a choice of keeping his MOS (25U) or re-class? And then will they show him options on duty stations and he get to pick? Also, am I allowed to go with him since he won't be doing any physical and things like that? I'd like to be apart of the decision making on where we go if he has the choice. Thanks everyone!

I went through this same process earlier this year. If his medpros is all green then it will be a no med process. Google army prior service business rules and that will tell you what jobs are available based on rank. If he has to reclass then he will not get to pick his duty station (that was my case). If he keeps his job then I dont know if he gets to pick where he goes. From the time I met with the recruiter to going to meps was a week and a half. From the first time going to meps to speak with the counselor and pick my job, to coming back and swearing in was about a week. Upon swearing in, I drove directly to my new mos school. You will not be able to go with him for the whole process but you can sit in on the swearing in. Pretty much you will sit in the waiting area till it's his turn to swear in.

SPC (Join to see) nope! No height and weight. Might be different at your meps but they just took what my recruiter submitted.

SPC (Join to see) yeah, I joined straight from the reserves, so my medical was already good to go. If you are totally out of service, you will have to do the whole process....

It is more like a formality than a scary first time through. You know what is coming and it’s fun to chuckle when they try to tell you something that is not true or you know different.

As said before, using medpros is a “no med” so your husband will not complete a physical. As for keeping his MOS, the Army publishes HRC business rules. These govern what mos’ the Army can take. This is broken down by rank as well. So, MOS’ for E5 May be different than E6. From what I read, mos 25U is open for E1-E4. The business rules also discuss mos’ that your husband can reclass into. However, please understand that it is needs of the Army so just because it’s on the business rules does not mean there is a vacancy.

What is MEPS like for prior service (specifically for a Reservist going back to active Army)?

Well most likely he won't have to do a physical and he will meet up with the counselor and depends on what the any needs either the counselor will tell him if he can stay a 25U or if he has to reclass sometimes the counselor calls the ROCK or something called of that sort and ask if the applicant can keep his current MOS. If he keeps his MOS they will let him know about duty stations if not then he'll get a small choice of MOS to reclass to. I don't think MEPS will allow you to go but he can ask the counselor if he can call you from their phone. My counselor let me call my recruiter this pass December also the first meeting with the MEPS counselor is to decide the ship date and then he gets the ship date and has to return to MEPS on the ship date. If he keeps his MOS he leaves MEPS and then leaves with you to the duty station, or if he has to reclass he leave to the AIT, he reclass, then gets orders, and then leaves to duty station, at duty station request permisive TDY to search for housing but I used my permisive TDY to pick up my family. Hope this helped you a little.

It does help, thank you! How quickly do they usually ship out? Assuming he keeps his MOS, will they give him his ship date, duty station and sign contract all in that one meeting with counselor?

I have done this twice before the first time I got to keep my MOS still had to returned to MEPS on my ship date and left to my duty station. Yes the first meeting with the MEPS counselor he will do his contract but he will do it again on his ship date. Hope he keeps his MOS and just leaves MEPS on his own. If they have him reclass let me know, because I will advice you and him something I went through this second time returning to active duty.

Jenna James when I go through, most of the staff joke around w/ me and we play up to the new kids going through. They know I've been through the game before and we just talked about what we experienced during our time.

Can anyone tell me what medical will be required at MEPS if my dental is currently amber? Will I be required to do an entire physical if my overall MEDPROS is still green?

Since he still in the service then he should haven’t to do medical unless he wasn’t green. He just need to find out what jobs he qualify for or so he wanna retake the Asvab.

Unless they’ve change in the past 10 years or so, he’d have to go through the entire medical screening at MEPS again.

it has changed. New regulation came out September of 2017 allowing current drilling reservists or sister service applicants released within a certain amount of time to do a no med process with the Army. I just did it in May...no med.
