In your organization today or in the past what was most important?

"Mission" "Core Values" "Vision"

How would rank those today if your were in charge?

COL Mikel J. Burroughs great post, I would rank values, vision an mission. My thought process is to have strong convictions on right/wrong, the end-state/purpose and the mission. I guess its like a well oiled engine in a BMW sports car built for speed.

SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL It is really a "gut" call or perception by each individual leader on what is most important - from day one we are all taught that the Mission First and Soldier Always! So how do you separate that and break it down. In order to complete the missions assigned you need to have a team that truly believes and lives by their values and you have to have a leader that provides a vision of success and purpose for the organization, which in turn leads to constant mission success. I personally think that any of those ingredients are missing a particular mission could fail! I've seen it first hand through my years of experience and when you peel back the onion - guess what - there was a core value issue or a lack of leadership vision! Thanks for your feedback Joe!

If you don't have the Army Values as a soldier, you are dangerous.

Core Values, Mission, Vision. The core values help shape those who are dedicated to the mission to provide the vision of what we want in our military.

You could switch the words around like : Navy Core Values help shape those sailors who are dedicated to the mission to provide a vision of what we want in our Navy.

For me Core Values, mission and Vision but I think we lack values that are true to honor and dignity. I have seen it first hand and I think that its sad when you have no core value of integrity to be better then most. I think we got there as a team so why not work like a team and not step on the little guy on the way past them. Just my thoughts.

For the NCO Academy I would have to say vision and core values. Because without these the junior NCO's we train may not grow into something more.

COL Mikel J. Burroughs I wonder if it depends on the level. An operational unit might be focused more on the mission, however a higher level (flag officer) organization might be more concerned with Vision.

MAJ (Join to see) I think that is a valid point, but I believe that we should introduce and challenge our leaders at all levels to "build a balanced platform" around Core Values at the individual, squad, plattoon, Section, Company levels, followed by the leader's communicated vision and intent, and culminating with higher mission accomplishment(s) in a number of areas (Recruiting, APFT and Physical Fitness, Unit METL Task "T" Level Assessment, Retention, Military and Personal Education levels, Weapons Familiarity/Qualification, DMOS Qualification Percentages, Enlisted/Officer Evaluation completeion percentages, and the list of KPIs can go on within any command at all levels). "READINESS - DRIVEN BY CORE VALUES, VISION, AND MISSION ACCOMPLISHMENT!" Just my two cents and opinion!
