6 Star General, posthumously awarded to George Washington, so that no military member will ever be senior to him.

I read through several comments and did not see anyone mention the GS5 at CID who inspects your TA50 turn-in and signs your clearing papers. That person can stop everything in it path.

True, however, when Washington was promoted posthumously (in 1976 I believe), they the legislation I believe also indicated that he would outrank every General past, present, or future. Some argue that makes Washington the one-and-only Seven Star General, or, at least a rank all his own that outranks all others. Regardless, the POTUS has a military rank that still outranks them (which was also held by Washington): Commander-in-Chief.

General of ___________ Army, Navy or AirForce (5 Star Rank normally only issued at time of war).
I do believe I heard something shortly after I retired from the Army of Making General George Washington the ONLY 6 Star General. But dont know.

Nope Pershing was a six star (General of the Armies as opposed to a five star-General of the Army). Washington though is supposed to outrank all by decree and therefore some consider him to be the one-and-only seven star general. Regardless, the POTUS has a military rank that still outranks them (which was also held by Washington): Commander-in-Chief.

I see, I stand Corrected on Gen Pershing. However, I believe the question was "Military" Rank. The Commander in CHIEF is NOT a Military Member and I BELIEVE this was PURPOSELY DONE by the Founders of our Nation so to prevent Military Control. So the Highest Ranking Military member would have to Be General Washington.

By law, the UCMJ doesn't (and is unlikely able to) apply to him. Moreover, by tradition, even those who retained titular connections to the military severed them entirely upon taking the oath of office (the most recent and notable example is, of course, Dwight D. Eisenhower).

The highest rank I have ever hear of is: General of the ARMIES! I think that Pershing was the only one to hold this rank.

Wives have no rank in the military and they need to be reminded of that constantly.

I frequently referred to my "Better Haldf" as the CSM, me being the lowly Master Sergeant or SGM as i was hoping to be. Be it OFFICIAL or NOT, she has always had the ability to put more FEAR OF GOD in me than ANY Officer or Non Commissioned Officer I had the pleasure of Serving with. AND I feel i served with the BEST!
