Yeah, if you don't already have an account. I've tried several times to claim they offer to no avail. Really LinkedIn is good for a way to list a social media resume but aside from a link in my resume and electronic applications I see no further utility to it.

The first thing to do is ask yourself what are you trying to achieve by being on LinkedIn. I generally suggest that you get to the point of where LinkedIn starts LIMITING what you want to do and then take advantage of the ONE YEAR FREE JOB SEEKER UPGRADE for Veterans. Here a quick read on the Mistakes that Military Professionals Make on LinkedIn as well http://bit.ly/LinkedInCPO

What is the advantage to LinkedIn premium? Is it worth the coin?

I took the one year free upgrade so I could connect with other like minded people, veterans or not, to grow my network and meet new people. In doing so, I've been able to refer others to services, jobs, and customers I would have otherwise never known of.

The premium account is totally worth it if you use it correctly. The biggest advantage it gives you is in their job board you can highlight your resume once you submit your application. This gives you another tool to help you standout among your peers.

My experience was not good. It was expensive and the only thing I got was inundated with spam email and a lot of bogus job leads. The leads usually turned out to scam artists. I hope others have a good experience but it took me a year to find a job and a few months of that year I wasted following the unattainable carrot dangled in front of me from LinkedIn "leads".

I feel that if you really treat it like a business tool and know some of the written and unwritten rules it is VERY powerful. yes.

I suggest you maximize your free membership then consider paid membership. LinkedIn should grant you a year of Premium for free as a military member or veteran. I can look into it but ask them!

Here is a web search results on your question. :Profiles and activity on sites like LinkedIn and Twitter can be highly beneficial. Job seekers and executives looking for employment this year should utilise social media to maximise their success and make new connections that could potentially lead to lucrative employment.
In addition, job seekers will need to ensure their profiles on social media sites are working to their advantage, as well as ensuring their professional resumes are up to scratch.

I have not used it yet, but I am told is worth the coin and it is free for one year from active duty personnel. Inbox me and I will give you a link for a free premium service for a year
