I would have to say the most motivational event since I've been in the military is when I returned from Afghanistan. As we walked off the plane in 2012 after a 9 month deployment the Ft Bliss Army Band, post CSM, post commander, brigade team all the way down to all the company command teams their to greet us. Along with all the families and friends. We turned in all our SI and secured our assault bags to make the last few steps into the waiting area to be released. We formed up as a company while smoke was going off and the song eye of the tiger was playing with green and gold lights moving around on us. We walked through the smoke stood at attention and made a left face. The next words we all heard were "dismissed!"

It was short and sweet, from my Dad. I was competing in a Judo tournament at 14. My sensei (coach) decided I was good enough to compete in the junior men's class. My first match was against a guy who was at least 22. In the 1st 15 second's he accidentally dislocated my elbow. My Dad set my arm back and said:
"No matter what you do right now, I love you. If you do not forfeit, but lose, everyone will respect you. If you win, they'll admire you. If you win decisively, you will be a %$@*^&! giant. What's it gonna be?
I stayed in the match, threw him decisively within five seconds of the restart, (still don't know how) and went on to win the weight class, and second in the open class.

Oddly enough - one of the most memorable motivational speeches was in the DFAC tent at JRTC. Our Co CDR called a Co meeting at the DFAC tent before going into the "box" - he got up on the table (he's a big dude - former professional bodybuilder) and began to "wing" the most amazing moto speech I've witnessed in person. It takes a special person to be able to give speeches like that on the fly.

SSG (Join to see) Great story, great reward! My choice for a motionvational speech would be the opening scene of "Patton"!
