It's the action that occurs after the preparatory command BOHICA, (Bend Over Here It Comes Again).

LTC (Join to see) - Part of the larger "harassment package". Hurry up and wait, we're only humping out and helos will fly us back (no birds or trucks come), there will be hot chow waiting (not), no need for ponchos because it's not going to rain (it floods), just pack 2 MRE's because we'll only be in the field for one day (turns into a week), clean out your foxholes for the next guys (and when you come back they are full of trash and human crap), mail will definitely come Monday (what we heard every Friday and it usually came a few weeks later) etc. It keeps everyone on edge and pissed off so they'll take it out on the enemy. Learn to expect adversity because you can count on it.

CWO3 (Join to see) lol those are all great ones. I have to add an airborne favorite told at the 30 second warning. "There's no wind on the dz!"

LTC (Join to see) - don't forget if you're going to be one, be a Big Red One and where the SPEARHEAD goes, the shaft will follow.

It is primarily used in the Army and USMC to imply that you're being screwed over by the military.

SSgt (Join to see) has it right. It's "green" because it's primarily a Marine term. Look up Terminal Lance cartoons and search for Green Wennie. You'll get the idea.
Illustration: enlisted members must apply for leave. Leave must be approved at the company or squadron level. During holiday seasons (Thanksgiving, Christmas) service members like to take leave and go home, often requiring purchase of airline tickets. The unit headquarters staff delays approving leaves to ensure an adequate number of enlisted are on hand to carry out missions during the holiday period. This delay causes junior enlisted members to wait to buy airline tickets until inside the 14-day in advance window when tickets are cheaper. The Green Wennie strikes!

Thank you for the reference to Terminal Lance. I was not familiar with his work (unfortunately I was Army rather than Marine - oh well!)
