My brother 36 years later still crawls into the fetal position when he watches the squad bay scenes.

Back last area clear! Almost never unless an unexpecting antagonist is walking by.

The Hunt For Red October.
Heh the control room aboard the USS Dallas and the location of her countermeasures not to mention why was a first class and a captain wearing working uniforms. At Sea we wore our coveralls.

Also the ability to get guns from the Small Arms Locker at the snap of a finger. Also, none of the Chiefs have coffee cups surgically implanted into their hands...

Rockets, explosions, slow death and agony screams from kill shots. Pretty much all of Hurt Locker like the first guy said.

"Down Periscope"....everything about it. I know it's suppose to be a comedy, but still, didn't care for any of it!

PO1 Edward Spencer - As it's a comedy and the actors aren't my flavor of comic material, I have not seen the movie. However, I'll have to give it a try based on your recommendation.

I think you mean Up Periscope, and I have watched it numerous times, really enjoy James Garner movies. It would be interesting to see that part of the Navy, I'm sure its very different than shipboard life which brings back some fun and not so fun memories, but always great sea stories.

So many submarine movies with different aspects they contribute to the life and myth of submariners.

CDR Terry Boles - No, I absolutely meant Down Periscope. You know, Kelsey Grammar, Rob Schneider, Lauren Holly? Most accurate movie yet made about the U.S. Nuclear Navy.

I think just about every movie involving a military branch has major screw ups. From simple things like in Godzilla, an army LTC wearing his sleeves rolled like a marine to seeing a gun battle where no one ever reloads etc. Is it on purpose or are they too cheap to hire a former military advisor.

Small thing, but when talking to male superior Officers and instead of saying "Gentlemen" they say "Sirs." You don't hear Ma'ams so why Sirs?

Well it is correct to say that. It might be a regional thing but I have heard it.

SSG Pete Fleming - When I went through Basic it was drilled into us that there is no such term as Sirs. It was Gentlemen in a group of 2 or more male officers and in mixed company Ladies and then gentlemen

SGT Christopher Erickson - I won't deny that. I only said technically sirs is correct... Now take into account that very few writers were in boot camp... They should research more of course and it is a goof, I wasn't trying to undermine it, sarcasm gets lost through a keyboard sometimes.

SSG Pete Fleming - Too true it does, besides been working in a hot sun today so my sarcasm detector is fried. Normally I speak it fluently. Your previous comment was valid and was less needed.

Honestly, it's uniform regulations. I never noticed it before the Marine Corps, but once I was in, that's all I can see. The worst example (I can't remember if it was a TV show or movie) was this Marine in his service Alphas... but he was incredibly heavyset. It looked like they would have needed 2-3 belts to circle that Alpha Coat.

hahah, I know. I remember that one. I was not a Marine but come on, no Marine would be like that.
