It is earned meaning that a trainee will eventually get to use their phones to call home. It depends on MOS and individual policy by that command.

1. REFERENCES.
a. TRADOC Regulation 350-6, Enlisted Initial Entry Training Policies and Administration, 7 November 2012.
b. Fort Leonard Wood Command Policy #19 Cellular/Smart Telephones
2. GENERAL. This policy provides guidelines for the use of Cellular/Smart Telephones by Soldiers in Basic Combat Training (BCT) and Advanced Individual Training (Al T).
3. POLICY AND PROCEDURES.
a. Use of personal cellular/smart telephones.
(1) It is the Battalion Commander's responsibility to establish written policy that outlines trainee privileges within their organization. Battalion policies will establish length of calls and may be more, but not less restrictive than the guidelines provided by Brigade.
(2) BCT Soldiers may utilize phones during the following times and circumstances:
(a) Within 72 hours of arrival to the unit to notify family members of their safe arrival at their unit for training.
(b) If a Soldier is at risk for graduation, they will be afforded the opportunity to notify their family.
(c) If a Soldier is transferred from one unit to another (new start), they will be afforded the opportunity to notify their family.
(d) Red, White and Blue Phasing phone privileges: Soldiers that are in good standing and have met minimal standards or objectives determined by the unit commander will be afforded the opportunity make phone calls.
(e) As needed in conjunction with emergency management (Red Cross Messages, etc).

(3) AIT Soldiers may utilize phones during the following times and circumstances:
(a) Phones may be used on evenings and weekends provided that the Soldier is not participating in a training event.

4. ADDITIONAL GUIDANCE: Commanders must exercise good judgment on privileges and consider Drill Sergeant and AIT Platoon Sergeant recommendations, specific situations and issues that the Soldiers may be encountering.
