As a prerequisite for a interview with the Kennel Master, PMO said that I needed my retention NCO to email him this completed form but doesn't know what it's called.

There is no DA form for that. The PMO needs to write a memo that states something along the lines of they have reviewed the background information and you have no negative information.

FYI anyone who tells you that you need to provide them with something (a specific form, a 4187, a memo) but doesn't have an example on hand, doesn't know what the f they are talking about. It's like when someone says "It's in the reg, go look it up" but they can't tell you what reg.

If you're talking about the PMO in JBLM specifically they have this weird thing where they want the Career Counselor to fill out a request on a form they made up, then send it to the PMO. Then they email you once the investigation is complete and you do the interview.

If your interview with the Kennel Master is for your job, then cool. If you're trying to get into 31K then just throw that in the trash and don't waste your time.

SFC (Join to see) - I believe what they are asking for is a NCIC check. NCIC checks cannot be done for shits and giggles. I believe they made their form for a paper trail. At Bragg, when I was the Provost SGM, I had to tell the Corps CG that I wouldn't be able to do an NCIC check on a SGM he had suspicions of signing up with his brothers SSN (later proved and CM). If LEO organizations preform an NCIC check, without reason, they get kicked in the nuts and loose their ability to connect to the system.

Before 31K started, it was the A9/Z6 ASI. There was one class a month of 12 ( 4 Army, 4 Navy/Marines, 4 AF). To get a slot we almost needed to know someone, that could pull some strings, to get a slot. The kennel master in Yungsan ('92) knew people at MP Branch and got me my slot. I can't imagine how hard it is to get a 31K slot for an IET, it has to be just about impossible to get a non-MP a slot.

SGT(P) (Join to see) - Also, I'm pretty sure you are going to need to have a 4856 from a SFC MP to reclass, at least it used to be a requirement. If so, have your BN/BCT Career Counselor type it up. I had to do it for my BCT when I was the BCT MP PSG. I always had the BN/BCT Career Counselor type it up and I signed it.

SGM Steve Wettstein the requirement now is that it's a memo from a SFC at the Provost Marshal stating they performed the background check. I believe it is the NCIC check as you stated. 31B and 31K have to have the se background check.

For 31K the only people who really have slots for the class are the Recruiters, and even they say it's a unicorn assignment. For in service reclass, there are probably less than 10 seats released in any given year. By the time we see it on the system it has been taken

That's not what we really use. We do NCIC checks and also run them through our MP forms and database program.

SGM Steve Wettstein - At first I thought that was an odd comment, but the more I think about it, the MP's not really using the "Police Record Check" for to do Police Record Checks is probably the most Army thing I'll hear today...

He may be referring to DA Form 7708, that is as close to a background check less a screenshot of RLAS tabs.
