SFC Krotzer’s E-7 rank may have helped, but MP MSG Jackson only said, “get Gone!” We did! Jackson passed us in a cloud of dust as we were hustling down the dusty road from Ki-an-Ni to the MSR where a Koream Army truck laden with civilians, chickens, etc, gave us a ride to an entry point to Camp Casey!

I did lots of stupid shit as a young EOD Tech. Lots of stuff that stretched my immediate chain of commands' limits of course.
Worst thing I did was I assumed that if I excelled at my job and took care of my troops, leadership would take care of me. Oh well. I wouldn't change much if I did it all over again.

TSgt David L. A cousin, EOD Officer in Germany, consented to ‘fire’ a grenade ? for a friend. He was Slow in dropping it into the old ?mortar? tube use for that purpose, a neighbor, GI MD did a few sutures — off the record!

CSM Charles Hayden - As a general rule, EOD folks are usually pretty smart, but everyone has a bad day. What was Murphy's Law about grenades? "5 second fuses are 3 seconds long" or something like that! Hahaha

TSgt David L. - Ours were a 6 second delay. We had to pull the pin and release and let them cook for a few seconds before tossing them into a hole in case some gook tossed it back at you.

You would have to ask that question to my good ole Platoon Sergeant, SFC Audrey Smith ,he could have given you dozens or even hundreds of really dumb things I did from Basic to Vietnam,miss that old SOB ,don’t make em like that anymore .

CSM Charles Hayden - My PSG tasked me to find them. Sent me to the 1SG first, then the usual next stops within the battalion for maximum humiliation. . . In my mind, I figured there was some structure on the DZ that required keys to open, like maybe the closed MOUT buildings on the flight line.

SFC (Join to see) - We always sent the new troops on "supply related" tasks. The typical stuff like boxes of flight line and cans of prop wash, grid squares and that kind of stuff. Never heard of anyone having to get keys to the DZ. Funny though! LOL

SFC (Join to see) - LOL Chem light batteries is the best. We had cylums (sp) and one young EOD Tech went through 4 boxes of them trying to find out if the entire lot number was bad. If he had read the boxes he would've seen that they were IR and they were all good. Not the sharpest tool in the shed for sure! LOL
