For many of us, this will probably be dominated by the .45 Cal. Model 1911 Pistol (in service since 1911) and the .50 Cal. M2 Machinegun (Manufactured since 1921). For me, it was the above 2 weapons, plus the Smith & Wesson Model 1905 .38 Special Revolver. Please make this weapons that you actually used, carried, or operated as a service member. (The Navy guys will probably win. They never throw anything away.)

While stationed at Da Nang Vietnam in 1968 into early 1969 I did use the 50 caliber shown in this picture from there. This post in this picture is one I had worked while assigned to the USAF 366th Security Police Squadron overlooked a rice paddy towards the village shown across from it. This was on top of an old bunker the French had used before we arrived there which We continued to use. We did also use the M79 a 40 mm grenade launcher which only dates back to 1961 however. You right about the Navy, seems I saw them still using a lot of ancient weapons !

Sub-Thompson. If I made another deployment to Vietnam, I was offered my choice of weapons. When I said sub-Thompson, the captain said they had been obsolete for years. My response was that you didn't ask if it was obsolete; you asked me my choice. He ordered the weapon.

Unless you had a Springfield, M-1 Garand, or M-14, it was an M-7 Bayonet, adopted in 1964.

I did use the 50 caliber while in Vietnam which would be the oldest I had used in the active Military. We also elsewhere had used the M1 and M2 Carbines and the S&W, Combat Master piece 38 Caliber revolver. Used the M79 40 mm grenade laugher also. Used the M60 machine gun also as shown in the picture of Me here here which was taken at Da Nang, Vietnam in 1968. Was trained also n the .81 mm mortar but wasn't on a mortar crew. Prior to My Military service in Vietnam though as a Cadet at Bordentown Military Institute, Bordentown, NJ in their Army ROTC program we were issued and used the M1 Garand, 30 Caliber rifle, also the BAR, Browning automatic Rifle and the 1911 45 Caliber pistol. Shown in the photo here are racks of M1 Garand 30 caliber rifles in the Army ROTC Armory at BMI. I had also learned to use the Springfield, 1903 rifle which was also 30 caliber.

M1 Garand 30 Caliber rifles in racks at the US Army ROTC Armory at Bordentown Military Institute where i had been a Cadet prior to entering the Air Force. That was the first Military weapon I had been trained on.
