If I'm asking this in the wrong place or there is an answer, please let me know. We are all members of a private forum, we are all connected by military service. I'm not sure why we have personal connections in RP.
Is there a benefit or purpose that I'm missing?

I'm thinking it's the whole "networking" thing, Sir.

Several people I have added as a Contact have sent me PM's regarding some cause they are supporting. Looking to get me to break out my checkbook to donate money or buy their book. I suppose the ability to PM one of your Contacts could be used to "out" a potential poser.

A related topic is the "Endorsements" option. I have no idea what purpose that serves.

My assessment is lots of Folks here are looking to just build "points". The more Contacts and endorsements someone has, must give someone some kinda boost in their social status.

I'm just here for the beer.

and that is why we're RP friends MSG Pat Colby . I'm here for the entertainment but don't want to miss a useful function.

I think the endorsements are a way to vouch for someone you may have worked with or really like. I notice that it produces points too but it seems more valuable than the personal connection.

I think at one time you could not send a message unless you were connected.

LTC Jason Mackay - You still need to be contacts to send messages to folks... He exception is to member admins and folks over 75,000 influence points. As mentors, anyone can message them.

I've met great people on here and have changed venues from this site. Some I have friended on Facebook, some Ive met locally and hit the rifle range with. One adopted me and has been working with me for job opportunities in Japan. The old format on RallyPoint didn't allow for messaging each other unless you were already a contact with them, etc, etc.

SFC Mark Merino now that makes sense. So it's more of a legacy carry over? I can live with that. Thanks again.
BTW, if you're ever near San Antonio in the next 2 years, look me up. There is a great range that's free for military. Bandara Gun Club. I try to get out there 1-2 week ends/month.

Join nearly 2 million former and current members of the US military, just like you.
