You would have to have a viable reason/excuse such as due to your current schedule on guard or what ever you are doing doesn't allow you to make it to the dining facility during the normal hours of operation, then with that great reason you would have to get a 4187 with that information on it and the Company commanders signature on it for validation. That 4187 would then need to be taken to either your local finance office or your unit S-1. Most company commanders will not sign off on the 4187 for start/stop BAS unless valid reason for it. If they finance department gets audited and your paperwork gets looked at and is found to be fake/false the company commander can be held liable for all the expenses from the start/stop of the BAS. And to be honest most young Soldiers just want more money, and say that the DFAC does not have good food. The Army is not worried about your likes it is worried about knowing they have provided for you what you need not what you want.

would you consider the Dfac being closed a good/viable reason? my dfac is closed at random days in the week and completely on the weekend. the only open Dfac is about 10-15 minutes away by car, 30-40 during the week @ rushhour with the gates clogged, which is not feasable for the alotted time I am allowed to grab chow.
sorry for the late response, training n such.

PFC (Join to see) are you living in barracks and get card for the chow hall? If so then get married to get BAS and move out. Of course do it for love not just to get out of the barracks and for the BAH.

I do Mailroom and it gives you BAS because you work during your lunch 12-13 , & there’s possibly other “additional duty’s” that’s does the same

1. Are you trying to tell us, that there is only 1 DFAC on base? My regiment had 1 for each BN. Your meal card will work at any DFAC on the base. 2. If your work schedule runs afoul of the DFAC hours, then it is up to your NCO's to get you fed, TRATS, MRE's, mermites, whatever. The service has to try to feed you while you are in- the field may be spotty, but garrison shouldn't be. Take this up with the CoC, or stop sleeping in and get your 4th POC to the DFAC

What if the DFAC is closed 3 days a week for all 3 meals and there is no bus route to another DFAC on post?

Talk to your CSM, that's BS, I seriously doubt the whole damn unit is on BAS- higher HQ would be screaming bloddy murder and your Co would be in front of stars trying to explain it.

SPC (Join to see) It doesn't matter if it's open or close, your BAS will still be taken from you. Even if your work schedule doesn't match the times. That money taken covers every source of food allowance that you'll receive through the Army. I know the situation is some soldiers want their BAS instead of food. Others such as myself, I need more food which the DFAC is all ration food but there's also a paper involved there stating the reason why you need more as well. It's never an easy route to take.

my DFAC is closed at random points during the week and all times during the weekend. A refund for these days would be prefered. sorry for the late response, training n such.

If your unit has a paucity of available quarters aboard base, or if you have special requirements that would be accommodated by living off base, go to your NCOIC, tell him your story and work it from there.
