Specifically, those with ROTC Scholarship. Regs indicate full 8 years as TPU. I was under the impression that it was 6 TPU and 2 IRR. Does it just come down to whomever approves it? Could somebody clarify?

For a scholarship, it is 8 years of TPU status. Non-scholarship is 6 and 2.

Thanks Sir. Does it matter the type of scholarship? ie 3 yr? Also are you still obligated to do the full 8 if you deployed or had any time on active orders?

1LT (Join to see) It is the same service obligation regardless of the length of scholarship. Deployments or other active duty tours during that time do not shorten the obligation.

Thanks Gentlemen. That’s what I thought, but upon reviewing AR 135-91, it looks like a Scholarship ROTC officer is obligated to do the full 8 TPU. I’ve never heard that before so I’m still confused.

Surprised it specifies TPU, I would think that any Ready Reserve service would count. Guess I would be wrong. LOL

You can request a transfer to the IRR with an effective date of six years after your commissioning date.
You can submit a resignation with an effective date of eight years after your commissioning date.
