Got the option to go to Ft Carson as a 25U.My only concern is the cold... Im from an island and not at friend of cold places .. is it for real that cold over there? Any suggestions?

It is cold one day.. then it snows.. hot the next.. then it hails.. then its warm... then theres 100mph winds..
We used to say "If you don't like the weather.. just give it a few hours".
Make sure your insurance covers hail damage.. you're going to need it

I spend 4.5 years assigned to Tripler AMC, Honolulu, HI. The. PCS’d to APG, MD in January. That was a cold transition. The from APG, MD to Fort Carson, summers are nice, Winters are cold, but it’s a dry cold, not like Chesapeake Bay wet cold! Oh...you will need sun screen for under your nose and chin, reflected off the snow. Good sunglasses are essential!

I did just the opposite went firs to Hanscom AFB, MA which got cold and damp then to Lowry AFB, CO to Hickam AFB, HI. You are right about the cold in Colorado a dry cold which didn't bother me. I did enjoy all three assignments though all of which were My first choice. Don't know how I was that lucky but I was.

I'm at Carson right now. Weather changes by the hour. It was 11 degrees this morning, it's 52 right now.

Hello. We are with Fort Carson MWR (Morale, Welfare & Recreation) and Mountain Post Living. We're relatively new to this site. Responses to your question are spot on. Fort Carson weather is sporadic. Higher elevations tend to have it worse though.

Served at Carson from 1980-1983. 3 Winters. 2 in Tanks!! It gets cold in the winter!! Can get below 0 and the wind is a factor much of the time! wind chill factors can get bad. Humidity is always low, so that helps a little. In the summer, it's great. Moderate temps. I'm from South Carolina, so it was nice for me, in the warm months. We got extra cold weather issue gear and got the high altitude briefing. Change your socks every morning, especially when down-range. I'm not familiar with 25U, but tankers got the worst (along with boots and scouts, etc.). Best wishes in your career!

It is definitely cold. It isn't damp cold and places are well insulated but you do need to have winter clothing and be ready for it.
